First United Midweek Bible Study

Are you interested in relating the bible to your life and spirituality? Please join us.  A group is meeting twice monthly in Room 14 at the church to discuss Bible stories and passages.  We meet 8:45-10:00 on the 2nd & 4th Wednesday mornings each month beginning Sept. 12.  The group is led by church staff and this fall we will study the book of Genesis and discuss how it relates to our lives today.  Please call the church if you are interested in coming.

Children Education
What you see may look the same. Children in rooms. Adults and senior high youth with them. Rooms with tables. Rooms with chairs. What happens with those children in those rooms is the same. And different too. On a Sunday in May, you would have seen our Kindergarten class enact all seven days of Creation. A firmament, sky, sun, moon stars, plants, fish, animals, Adam and Eve--all created, all blessed, all good. And suddenly, all the animals and people and plants and sky collapse in a pile and rest--Sabbath. It was VERY good.picture of children in christian ed
On another Sunday, a Second Grader faces a forked path, one side marked Wrong, the other Right and faces the choice experience described in Psalm 23:3: "He leads me in right paths for his name's sake." A child in a cloak with a staff puts his arm around a sad boy, and Psalm 23:4 comes to life: "Your rod and your staff they comfort me."

Many children read about creation. Here they bring it to life. Children learn Psalm 23. Here they embody it. Nurturing the spiritual life of children and youth takes a variety of forms: art, conversation, drama, play, lectio divina, music. And in the center of all of this action and stillness hovers spirit. Holy Spirit. And a healthy dose of divine silliness. And community.
