Music

Music is an important part of the worship experience at First United Church. At its core is the singing of hymns by the entire congregation. Other special music to enhance worship is provided by several ensembles composed of church members and friends.

And music is also one of the bridges connecting the church with its community. Our Music at First series of arts events in the Sanctuary is  open to the general public.

The Sanctuary Choir

Rehearsals Wednesdays, 7:30 pm The Sanctuary Choir is a group of volunteer singers whose musical talents are a significant part of Sunday morning worship. The choir also presents major musical works, such as the Bach Magnificat and the Faure Requiem, with orchestral accompaniment

Folk Singers

Days and times of rehearsal vary The Folk Singers sing and play instruments such as guitar, banjo, autoharp, and percussion. This group performs contemporary Christian music as part of worship on special occasions.

Music At First

Music at First is a series of musical events involving both church members and guest artists. These include concerts ranging from the forma to the family oriented; dramatic presentations; and recitals showcasing the talents of church members and friends. The series is administered by a committee of volunteers from First United Church.

Children's Choir

Children in grades 3 through 8 are invited to sing in the children’s choir. The choir practices for just half an hour immediately following Sunday worship, and sings in worship four to five times a year.

God’s Children Sing Sundays, 9:45-10:30 AM

God’s Children Sing is a unique opportunity for our youngest children and their adults during the church school hour. Each week infants and toddlers up to 3 years of age and adults share music and movement as a way to experience God.

Amy Pappageorge, a trained MusikGarden teacher, offers the group songs, music, or musical instruments, and together everyone dances, sings and moves in the Key of Faith.

Peek in the window of the upstairs gym sometime. You may see floating bubbles, whirling scarves or a billowing parachute. You may hear a tambourine or joyful singing. Or you may hear the sounds of prayerful silence or laughter. One thing for certain: you will always see smiles.

A MusikGarden Program is also available at scheduled times during the week.

Unity

Days and times of rehearsal vary Unity is a group of young singers of high school age who enjoy performing wide-ranging styles of music. They participate in worship several times throughout the year, both with and without accompaniment.
