The ninth graders of First United go on a journey - a Quest - as they explore the possibility of adult membership in the church. Quest meets on Sunday mornings during the education hour before worship for a time of learning with, questioning and challenging each other. Quest also involves treks during which learners and leaders travel to places like the Oriental Institute to encounter artifacts from the Ancient Near East when our scriptures were written or a cemetery to talk about our understandings of death and resurrection. The four members of the pastoral staff and two lay leaders of the church share in the leadership of the program.
Youth are also paired with a Friend in Faith, an adult from the congregation, with whom they share questions and wonders.
History, discipleship, God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, church, worship – our Quest takes youth and adults to many corners of our faith and our tradition. It’s a journey.
