Caring Community

The First United Church reaches out to its members and friends in many ways. It is by honoring our most basic human instinct, the yearning for real connection, that we find our way to one another in celebration, in sorrow, and in friendship and fellowship.

Deacons

Deacons are members of the First United community who have been elected to serve as the "spiritual caregivers" of our church family. Every member of the church is assigned to the care of a Deacon who will accompany them on their journey of life and faith.

The Deacons' mission is to nurture the spiritual and emotional life of the church community by creating a culture of care and acceptance. Deacons strive to spread the radical love and healing of God through opportunities to connect and support each other during the many stages of life – childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, raising families, managing relationships, exploring and developing careers, and aging with dignity. The deacon’s mission is to accompany all people on their journey of life and faith, in their joys and in their confusion, loneliness, and sorrow.

Small Groups

One of the best ways to connect with each other is through small groups. We offer seasonal small groups for six weeks in the fall and mid-winter. No matter who you are, no matter where you are in your relationship with God and with church, you are welcome in these non-judgmental groups.

Fostering Connection & Support

FCS is a weekly Zoom group with an information agenda ranging from things happening at the church to more personal topics. Talk as much (or as little) as you would like and come whenever you are able.

Visitation Ministries

Not everyone can leave their homes regularly to worship. The visitation team helps our aging or otherwise homebound members stay connected to the church community with regular visits.

Family Support Ministries (coming soon)

The Deacons and Children and Youth Ministry Teams are currently exploring ways to deepen our care for the growing number of young families new to the church. Stay tuned for more!
